The Flavors of Wisconsin Tour is a seven day tour on paved roads beginning in bike friendly Madison. We’ll kick off the week with an optional pre-tour short ride on the paved trails in Madison on Sunday afternoon followed by a beer and cheese pairing demonstration at Madison’s Great Dane Brew Pub. The main tour begins on Monday when we’ll head out through the scenic hills and valleys of south central Wisconsin, visiting cheese factories and microbreweries before settling down for the night in hotels and historic inns. We’ll enjoy delicious meals prepared by popular local restaurants with entertainment at some. We’ll learn how beer is made when we tour a popular brewery and learn its history at the National Beer Museum. We’ll learn about cheese at the National Historic Cheesemaking Center and enjoy tasting its many varieties at cheese factories along our route and even at our daily rest stops. We’ll drop into Illinois to visit historic Galena to spend two nights at the luxurious DeSoto House hotel which has played hosts to such figures as Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses S. Grant.
The route is somewhat challenging with frequent hills. We’ve kept the distances reasonable, though, and have added a lay-over day in Galena, IL where riding will be optional for those cyclists who want to rest their legs and explore the many attractions in this lively tourist town. Keep in mind that when you tour with us, the SAG vehicle is never far away and always happy to pick you up for a needed rest at any point on the route. Our tour begins and ends at the Wyndham Garden Inn in southwest Madison. Our next night will be in Mineral Point, Wisconsin’s third oldest city. Its historic buildings and friendly charm make it a popular destination for tourists from across the U. S. Other overnight towns include Galena, IL and Monroe, WI. We’ll spend our final night at the Swiss themed Chalet Landhaus in New Glarus, known as Wisconsin’s little Switzerland and home to the very popular New Glarus beer. At dinner we’ll be treated to a yodeling lesson while we sample fondue.
Price includes six nights hotel and inn lodging, five restaurant dinners, all breakfasts, usually restaurant buffet or order-off-the menu, luggage handling, off-bike activity fees, SAG, maps, cue sheets, marked routes, rest stops, and all the pampering that only a small group tour can provide! Check website for price and more details beginning in late November.
